Brooklyn Ballet welcomes back some of the dance world’s budding stars during a celebratory performance by young alum from our Elevate program for public schools. Brooklyn Ballet Company, Youth Ensemble and students from the School will also perform.
Brooklyn Ballet’s “Elevate” is an innovative educational program that infuses ballet training in school curriculum, engaging children in Brooklyn’s elementary and intermediate public schools in ways that are new, exciting and challenging. In the past decade, Elevate has reached more than 11,000 children in eight public elementary and intermediate schools throughout Brooklyn.
The Elevate program is supported by the progressive work of Brooklyn Ballet’s Company and School, reinforcing our multi-tiered mission to provide quality dance education, create and perform original choreography as well as classical ballet works, and expand the reach of ballet to Brooklyn’s underserved communities. Elevate extends the branches of the Brooklyn Ballet's family—many of our gifted conservatory dancers have been recruited directly from our interaction with students in public schools through Elevate..
Our All Stars were all introduced to ballet through Elevate and now train at some of the nation’s preeminent ballet institutions, including the JKO School at American Ballet Theatre, The Joffrey Ballet School, Harid Conservatory, San Francisco Ballet School and La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts.
Artistic Director Lynn Parkerson joins collaborators for Elevate @ 10! include painist Julius Abrahams and popper Mike "Supreme" Fields making this is an unforgettable event.
There will be no reception following the performance on Saturday, June 8.
