Strength, balance, quickness, timing and teamwork are all critical for success on the baseball diamond. Usually that success is limited to the players between the lines, but on Monday, July 23rd it will be the performers of Brooklyn Ballet who showcase their talents as part of the first-ever Ballet & Baseball performance at MCU Park.
During the Cyclones 7:00 pm game with the Aberdeen IronBirds on July 23rd, fans will be able to enjoy the fun and excitement that is synonymous with baseball in Brooklyn. But they will also be able to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime performance of A History of Ballet in Nine Innings as created and performed by Brooklyn Ballet.
“Partnering with the Cyclones – their energy, players, spectators and the design and color of the field – has inspired me to develop a ballet / mixed movement piece that will appear between innings and create a night to remember!” said Lynn Parkerson, Artistic Director of Brooklyn Ballet and creator of the event’s performance.
If you won’t be dancing on the field, you can still be involved in the evening’s festivities. Any fan who wears a tutu to the ballpark that evening will receive a voucher for a free hot dog and soft drink.
“Fans that come to MCU Park tend to expect the unexpected,” said Cyclones General Manager Steve Cohen, “But seeing a grand battement instead of a grand slam, or sautés instead of stolen bases, that is going to be a completely different experience for our fans at the ballpark. Whether it’s your first game or you are one of our most dedicated and loyal fans, this is a night that you won’t want to miss.”
For every $16 field box seat that is sold, the Cyclones will make a $6 donation to benefit Brooklyn Ballet. You can purchase tickets in person at Brooklyn Ballet, located at 160 Schermerhorn Street in downtown Brooklyn, on-line at brooklynballet.org or over the phone by calling the Cyclones ticket office at 718-382-2604.
